ELECTROLYSIS
HOW IT WORKS
Electrolysis is
the only approved method of permanent hair removal. An electrical
current is transmitted down a wire filament into the hair follicle to
the derma papilla or hair root. When the hair root has been treated
effectively, the hair will release and can be gently removed by the
Electrologist. Once the hair root has been eliminated, the hair will
not reproduce again. Each hair must be treated individually;
therefore, Electrolysis is a series of treatments. Most treatment
programs start with 15-60 minute sessions every week or every two
weeks depending upon the patients needs. As the process is making
headway, more and more time will be added between treatments. When
the initial problem has been cleared up, the patient may need a clean
up or maintenance treatment anywhere from 1-6 times a year, depending
upon the underlying reasons for the initial hair problem. This will
be for new hair the body has made, which has not yet been treated by Electrolysis.
BEFORE TREATMENT
|
Hair must be
approximately one-quarter inch long (the electrologist must see the
direction that the hair follicle is growing). |
|
Area must be
cleansed and free of makeup. |
|
Must refrain from
temporary hair removal methods; cutting hair is acceptable. |
AFTER TREATMENT
|
The area may
display a slight pinkness or redness depending upon the amount of
current needed to remove your individual texture of hair. This is
only temporary and may last anywhere from 20-60 minutes after the treatment. |
|
The area may have
minor swelling, this is all part of the healing process. Applying ice
to the treated area will help reduce the redness and swelling faster
hence making you feel more comfortable sooner after the treatment. |
|
Tiny, minute scabs
may develop over the treated hair follicles. It usually takes 2-3
days for these to appear. Do not pick these off, but let them fall
off naturally. |
|
Do not go into the
sun for at least 24 hours after a treatment. |
|
Do not apply
makeup for 24 hours after a treatment. |
|
The use of a mild
antiseptic, alcohol,Sea Breeze or Witch Hazel to cleanse the treated
area is necessary for 24 hours; antibiotic cream will also
enhance the healing process. |
There is some
sensation during Electrolysis treatments, but it is comfortably
tolerable. How much or how little differs, since every individual has
a different pain tolerance level. Most Electrologists recommend
relaxation to better tolerate the treatment.
